Therein lies the problem. Conservatives/libertarians will tend to let the statistics and numbers shape or reinforce their world view. Liberals, on the other hand, will try to shape the numbers to conform to their world view. You can see this in how we argue politics: Conservatives/libertarians will tend to try to argue using history, data, and logical thought, whereas liberals will argue based on feelings and emotions.
